Jersey Shore native Shayne Pospisil, or “Pizzle” as known among friends, (born May 15, 1985 ) in Manasquan, New Jersey is one of the world’s premiere all-around boarders. While Shayne has recently shown his ability to surf and skate, it is his success on the snow that put him on the map. Pospisil has been making quite a name for himself on the professional circuits of snowboarding, surfing, and skating since his first ride in 1995.
Early Years
Shayne quickly gained attention impressing onlookers while training with the Okemo Mountain School, known in the boarding world as Snowboard Academy. He spent many winters on the savage, icy pipes of Vermont that molded him into the all-around rider he is today. While his snowboarding roots developed on the East Coast, Pospisil has shred many different terrains across the United States.
Snowboarding Career
Due to his rare athletic ability and exceptional work ethic, Shayne has become a force to be reckoned with, competing against (and taking out) some of the biggest names in snowboarding including Travis Rice, Bjorn Leines, and Shaun White. Shayne’s biggest accomplishment to date was at the, arguably the biggest urban snowboard event in North America. The Jersey Boy was, without a doubt, the fan favorite, and in true East Coast style, did not disappoint. Shayne crushed the competition, laying out a frontside 900, a backside 900, and a crowd-pleasing combination finale to capture the top prize in front of 20,000 people in New York City’s East River Park.
Shayne has an aggressive style when riding toward the hip that gives him a general aura of confidence, leading him to consistently blast the largest airs and put down the cleanest backside spins of the pack. Shayne’s signature tricks, hakon flips and backside 7′s, have positioned him to become the next household name in boarding.
Shayne admires extreme athletes like Kelly Slater, Travis Rice and Danny Way, who have helped put their respective sports on the map, and he credits most of his success to the dedication of his family. While Shayne can thank snowboarding for his recent success and notoriety, he is quick to mention that his first love lies with surfing. He was a competitive surfer before he began competing in snowboarding. When he isn’t snowboarding, he can be found defrosting while riding the waves along the California Coastline and what he calls the “Laguna Beach of the East,” the Jersey Shore.
